The Humpty Dumpty daycare center in Berlin’s Schöneberg neighborhood is a small, parent-run kindergarden with a focus on bilingual education.
The kindergarden is located in generously sized premises with two large rooms, two smaller rooms and a small garden at the front. There are currently around 20 children between the ages of 18 months and 6 years . The team consists of 5 teachers, male and female, made up of both German and English native speakers. We follow the immersion approach to bilingual education, with the teachers generally speaking their native language to the children.
Parents are expected to take an active role in the day-to-day running of the kindergarden, which includes committing themselves to certain duties. Parents also enjoy greater opportunities than in other public daycare centers to be involved in decision-making and have a say in the direction and activities of the kindergarden.
