OPENING TIMES: The kindergarden is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Mondays to Fridays. We are closed for a maximum of 25 days in the year, including three weeks in the summer vacation period and between Christmas and New Year. The kindergarden is also closed for a number of days for internal staffing purposes, such as evaluation days, planning days, training and team-building retreats; these dates vary from year to year. The teaching team and the parents decide on the exact closing dates together.

PARENTAL DUTIES: Parents are expected to help in the day-to-day running of Humpty Dumpty. For example, three parents serve on the board, whose members are elected once year by the parents as a whole. As a registered association under German law (eingetragene Verein), the kindergarten is obliged to have a board, which functions as the kindergarten's management. The board's duties include staffing issues, membership and finances, among other things. In addition to the board positions, parents are expected to volunteer for other, smaller duties. These include managing the address list, carrying out repairs, shopping for food or helping out in the kindergarten if there are staffing shortages because of illness. In contrast to some other parent-run kindergartens, however, parents do not need to cook or clean on a daily basis.

LOCATION: The kindergarden is very convenient for public transport, being located close to the Eisenacher Strasse subway station (on the U7 line).

FOOD: At Humpty Dumpty, the children receive a nourishing breakfast, a warm lunch and an afternoon snack of fruit and vegetables. The midday meal is freshly prepared every day by our own cook. All the food served in the kindergarten is organic. The meals are balanced, nourishing and healthy and the quality is well above average in comparison to other daycare centers, helping our children to develop healthy eating habits at an early age. Sweet dishes such as cake or candies are only served on special occasions, such as birthdays or parties.

COSTS: In addition to the regular kindergarten fees (see Fees section), parents pay a monthly membership fee, currently set at 50 euros. The membership fee helps cover the costs of music lessons, sport and yoga, as well as organic ingredients for meals. The fee also contributes toward the costs of personnel to reduce parents' workload.
