Welcome to Humpty Dumpty Kita! We are a small bilingual Kita in Berlin-Schöneberg, run as a close-knit parent community. We care for up to 23 children aged 18 months up to school age in a warm, family-style setting with bright playrooms, quiet spaces, and a cosy front garden.

Group Size &
Admissions
We welcome up to 23 children in total, with up to 8 children in the Roses group (under ~3s) and up to 15 in the Birches group (over ~3s). Children can join Humpty Dumpty throughout the year, as each settling-in period (Eingewöhnung) is tailored to the needs of the child and their family. There is no fixed move-up date, children go up from the Roses to the Birches group whenever they feel ready, ensuring a smooth and supportive transition.

Education
Our Kita is dedicated to bilingual education, with teachers who are native speakers of German and English. We follow an immersion approach, where teachers speak to the children in their native language, creating a natural and engaging learning environment. Together with our teachers we actively involve parents in the learning process by providing regular progress updates and practical advice to support their child’s development.
Parent
Involvement
Parents are an essential part of Humpty Dumpty’s community and help keep everything running smoothly. Each year, three parents are elected by the families to serve on the Board, which oversees important matters like staffing, membership, and finances. In addition, all parents contribute to smaller tasks – from keeping the contact list updated and organising events to helping with repairs or stepping in during team meetings or staff shortages. Unlike some other parent-run Kitas, families here don’t need to take on daily cooking or cleaning.
Breakfast
& Lunch
At Humpty Dumpty, children enjoy a healthy breakfast, a warm lunch, and an afternoon snack of fruit and vegetables. Lunch is cooked fresh every day by our chef Andrew, who has been part of our team for over 15 years. All meals are organic, and sweet treats like cake or dessert are saved only for special occasions such as birthdays and celebrations.
Activities
At Humpty Dumpty, both the Roses and the Birches enjoy a playful and stimulating environment every day. All children take part in Yoga & Creative Movement with Athanasia, exploring balance, movement, and imagination, as well as Theatre Makes You Louder! with Anna, building confidence and expression through stories and play. The Birches also enjoy forest days (Waldtag), where they explore nature, and regular trips to museums and theatres. They also make the most of the many local playgrounds, heading out to play and discover together.
Opening
Times
Our Kita is open Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. We close for up to 25 days in total each year, which includes three weeks in summer, the period between Christmas and New Year, and a few additional days for planning, training, and team-building. These dates are agreed on together by the teaching team and parents each year.
